Dr. Vicka Versele
Biography
Vicka Versele obtained a master degree in Biomedical Sciences (Ghent University, 2012) and a bachelor degree in Nutrition and Dietetics (Odisee, 2014). In 2014, she encountered the field of health sciences during an internship at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the specialised cancer agency of the World Health Organisation. Afterwards, she did a traineeship at European Commission Directorate General Health and Food Safety (2015), worked as a research associate at the European Food Information Resource (EuroFIR) (2015) and as a project assistant on the project for the revision of the Flemish Food Triangle at Vlaams Instituut Gezond Leven (2016 – 2017). She started her academic career in 2016 as a teaching assistant and began a joint PhD (VUB – KU Leuven) in 2018 on the TRANSPARENTS research project which she successfully defended in October 2022. She is now working as a postdoctoral researcher at the VUB.
Research summary
Vicka Versele research focuses on health related research in the domains of body composition, nutrition, physical activity, sedentary behavior. She has specific expertise in pre- and postnatal behavioral aspects of behavior and determinants of energy balance related behavior. She has experience with dyadic research approaches and statistics and both quantitative and qualitative research designs.
