The panel will be moderated by Professor Alan Matthews, Professor Emeritus of European Agricultural Policy at Trinity College, University of Dublin. He is a former President of the European Association of Agricultural Economists and is currently a Fellow at the Brussels Institute for Advanced Studies (BrIAS) in Brussels.

Koen Dekeyser
Dr Koen Dekeyser is Policy Officer with the Sustainable Food Systems Programme at the European Centre for Development Policy Management. Together with Sean Woolfrey, he is the author of the ECDPM briefing note ‘A greener Europe at the expense of Africa? Why the EU must address the external implications of the Farm to Fork Strategy’ published in October 2021.
Allan Buckwell
Allan Buckwell, formerly Professor of Agricultural Economics, Wye College University of London and Policy Director at the Country Land and Business Association, and now a part-time Associate at the Institute for European Environmental Policy. He is currently working on a project commissioned by WWF UK which aims to explore policy options to promote environmental standards in UK agri-food trade.
Annalisa Zezza
Dr Annalisa Zezza is Research Director at the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA) in Italy. She was a lead author on a 2018 report for the AGRI Committee of the European Parliament ‘Agricultural trade: assessing reciprocity of standards’ and presented on this topic to a meeting of the AGRI Committee of the European Parliament in November 2021.
Kristina Mensah
Kristina Mensah has worked as an advisor with GIZ, the German Agency for International Development. She is currently a consultant in international agricultural trade and agricultural policy and a PhD candidate at the University of Hohenheim. She has been working on mirror clauses on pesticides and the potential impact on developing countries.
Wandile Sihlobo and Tinashe Kapuya
Wandile Sihlobo is the Chief Economist of the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa (Agbiz) and Senior Lecturer Extraordinary at the Department of Agricultural Economics at Stellenbosch University. He was appointed as a member of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Presidential Economic Advisory Council in 2019. Dr Tinashe Kapuya is currently a Senior Program Officer at the Alliance for a Green Revolution for Africa (AGRA) and Research Associate at the Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy in South Africa. They are joint authors of a paper ‘The EU’s Green Deal: opportunities, threats and risks for South African agriculture’ that appeared in both The Conversation and Agricultural Economics Today in October and November 2021.
