Despite the optimism at the turn of the century, democracies are witnessing a profound crisis, with indicators suggesting that democratic systems are under strain. From the rise of authoritarianism to disillusionment with political institutions, the challenges are significant. Trust in democratic institutions is declining, and citizens are becoming increasingly skeptical about the capacity of governance to deliver.

The BrIAS programme team organise various events related to their theme. Our main events are the weekly Thursday lunchtime seminars that take place during the intensive season.
