Paradoxes of the schooled society, by Leandros Kavadias

18 December, 2025 @ 16:00 - 18:00

Abstract

Over the past decades, a silent educational revolution has transformed an increasing amount of countries worldwide into ’schooled societies’. In such societies, schooling has become a central and authoritative institution that profoundly shapes our thinking, behavior, and interrelationships. This lecture examines this trend from a global and comparative perspective and studies its association to education-based inequalities and political conflict.

About the Lecturer

His research focusses on the comparative study of institutions and their societal consequences, specifically regarding social inequalities. His main fields of interest include comparative cultural sociology, intergroup relations, globalization and the sociology of education.
