The new programme will focus on transformative research integrating technical innovation, governance, justice, wellbeing, and financing strategies. The four main axes of the Season will be
- Sustainable transformations, transdisciplinary research & wellbeing,
- Sustainable engineering,
- Decarbonisation and justice,
- Decarbonisation and finance.
Fellowships: criteria & eligibility
BrIAS Fellowships involve residing in Brussels between October 2027 and May 2028, for a stay between 3 and 5 months. Applications will be evaluated according to the following selection criteria:
- Scientific excellence of the applicant,
- relevance of the applicant’s expertise and research to one or more of the programme’s thematic axes,
- willingness to engage with local scientific institutions and collaborate with other fellows,
- potential to contribute to interdisciplinary research and dialogue.
Eligibility requirements:
- Academic applicants must hold at least the rank of Assistant Professor (or any tenure-track equivalent position) from a foreign/non-Belgian university (Belgian residents, and candidates with an active Belgian university affiliation are not eligible).
- Applicants must be exempt from teaching and administrative duties at their home institution for the duration of the fellowship.

Interested candidates should submit:
- an updated curriculum vitae (CV);
- a 1–2-page motivation letter outlining their interest in the programme, the expertise they would contribute, and how their research aligns with one or more of the programme’s thematic axes. Any previous collaborations with ULB and/or VUB should also be mentioned.
Applications should be sent to the administrative manager, Dr. Anja Garone before the 11th of December of 2026. Decisions will be communicated by the end of January 2027.
